No one hits a home run coming right out of the dugout. OK, so maybe some do from time to time, but it's rare. Here are some observations from a few fellow indie authors:
"I wish I'd sought out the help of other authors. I was so afraid to ask, partly due to shyness, but also because there were a lot comments being posted at the time basically saying 'no one helped me, so you're on your own.' It made me afraid to ask anyone about almost anything, lest they think I was trying to take advantage of them rather than just seeking some guidance. Most aren't actually like that, I've learned, and I love places where authors support each other."
"I wish I'd waited until I had more than one book ready... as in COMPLETELY ready, edited, covers designed, etc."
"I wish I would've shopped around for cover artists & formatters and spent more time educating myself on marketing and learning about the industry. I've wasted so much money by trusting the one recommendation I was given."
"I wish I knew more about marketing myself. I really had no clue what I was doing and somehow thought that once I hit publish people would magically find my book. I had no concept of how little I was in such a big pond."
